Internet Marketing Opportunity for Student in Kent

Education Advisers Ltd, one of the leading consultancies offering advice to parents on choice of private schools, is offering a training opportunity to a post A-Level student for a period anywhere between 3 to 12 months. The student may be taking a Gap Year prior to joining University or College, or be an undergraduate doing an IT or Marketing related degree course. It might also appeal to a recent graduate who would like to gain some experience before finally deciding on a career path.

We operate 8 different education websites which lead the field in private school choice and the explanation of school curriculums (like the International Baccalaureate or the Pre-U) We have nearly 500,000 UK and international parents using the websites each year, many of whom end up retaining us for bespoke advice. At the same time, private schools like to use us to run campaigns to recruit more pupils.

Note – this is a training opportunity with modest compensation for expenses, rather than a salaried employment position. It is based in our office in North Tonbridge, Kent – so you must be within easy travelling distance.

What would you be expected to do? Here is but a sample:

  • Increase the search engine ranking (and thereby traffic) for all of our websites.
  • Develop your own initiatives to convert the company’s services to social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube
  • Improve psychology in getting site visitors to take action
  • Write site content / and be prepared to offer design input
  • Approach private schools to obtain better work and internet relationships
  • Participate in marketing initiatives and strategies for working with schools – both online and offline
  • Develop our placement profiles and databases for boarding schools
  • Develop video clips for streaming onto our websites

You will be trained in marketing techniques and internet psychology.

Hours and Training Allowance

Ideally you would be expected to attend for about 30 hours per week, but we would consider a part-time role for a minimum of 15 hours per week. The training allowance would be £500 per month for the 30 hour basis or pro-rated down for less. Attendance hours would ideally be between 9 am till 5 pm, but there is some flexibility. As a trainee position, there are no company benefits or sick pay.

What type of student would be considered?

You must be reasonably IT literate in programmes like Word , Excel and Outlook plus have a reasonable typing speed. You do not need to be able to program websites, but it is essential to have a good overall knowledge of the internet plus use of Facebook, Twitter etc. You ideally need to know about social networks and how the public uses them to search for information. You need to know how private education works and previous attendance at a private school would be an advantage. You need to be confident and outgoing with an easy telephone manner. You should have already gained at least 3 A Levels with minimum B grades. The student does not necessarily have to be an English National but must definitely be totally fluent in spoken and written English Language. There is only one vacancy and the student must be physically fit. Satisfactory references will be sought.

Would this lead to employment?

Education Advisers is a small company but attracts huge volumes of internet enquiries, mostly from high net worth parents, who demand to be dealt with professionally. It is company practice that “everyone” from the Managing Director down “gets their hands dirty”, whether that is filing or making the coffee to advising parents or school headmasters. The intimate working atmosphere gives you an unparalleled opportunity to learn marketing and the internet “at the coal face”, which experience will stand you in good stead in numerous other roles. HOWEVER, the Principals of Education Advisers are very experienced and senior people who are looking for “young dynamic talent to carry the business forward.” Therefore the right trainee might not only be offered a more permanent marketing role at the end of the initial period, but may even incentivised with an equity stake in the company.
